Dehumidifiers are widely applied in residential, commercial and industrial applications for reducing and controlling humidity.

What is a dehumidifier?

A dehumidifier is used to reduce humidity or moisture in a room, office, house, cold rooms, ware houses, swimming pools etc. Humidity is moisture spread in the atmosphere in the form of minute particles. There are various reasons which cause humidity. One of the main reasons is the external atmospheric humidity.

Types of dehumidifiers 

There are mainly two types of de-humidifiers by the technology used for the absorption of humidity. The two types are:

1. Adsorption type or desiccant type dehumidifiers: This technology uses an adsorbent material which absorbs moisture content. The inlet air will be of higher humidity. Once the air passes through the desiccant, the outlet air will be dry, thus reducing the humidity.
   
2. Condensation dehumidifier: This uses the technology of condensation similar to refrigeration principle. The inlet air will be of high humidity. The dehumidifier processes the same and converts the humidity into water. The outlet air will be with reduced humidity. The water thus generated is accumulated in a water tank inside the dehumidifier. The  water can be drained out manually or automatically.
   

Applications of dehumidifiers

Various applications of dehumidifiers are briefed below:

1. Swimming pool dehumidifiers - These are used in swimming pools. Indoor swimming pools generate huge amount of humidity which can destroy the walls and surrounding areas
   
   of the building. This can be avoided by installing dehumidifiers and removing moisture content
2. Dehumidifiers for cold rooms and freezers - When a room is colder than its surrounding area, moisture is quickly absorbed into the room. Hence moisture content in such room will be very high. Adsorption dehumidifiers are used in such rooms.
3. Dehumidifiers for warehouses - warehouses used for medicines, food, electronics etc. need to have controlled
   
   humidity. Hence the humidity in such area should be controlled by dehumidifiers
4. Dehumidifiers for home and offices - For normal living and office environments, the humidity should be kept at comfortable levels.
